I am an animator, designer, photographer, filmmaker and overall creative. Above all, I like telling stories and making things.
As an artist and designer, I combine 21st Century technologies with traditional media in projects large and small. From simple 2D visuals to full-4K video and animations, I find great joy in breathing life into clients’ thoughts and ideas, to bring them into reality and share them with the world.
My second, and longest so far, journey in #japan is now racing to its inevitable conclusion.
As I sit at the terminal, waiting for my flight to SF, I’m awash in an incomprehensible rising tide of thoughts and emotions.
Seeing my residence card get hole-punched really cemented the finality of the reality that this 4 year long chapter in my life is ending.
Almost four years to the day, I stepped foot in this place that I had come to call home. And now, I really do have to leave it for a while.
I know I’m rehashing some of the same themes I’ve been going on for the past couple months, but I think now especially, these themes feel ever more important and impactful.
It’s still hard for me to put it into words, and I have repeatedly confided with my friends here in Japan about it.
But in all those conversations, they’ve all told me the same thing that I’ve been saying to myself as well:
“I will be back.”
Had the chance on Wednesday to go to the #teamlabplanets exhibit in the #odaiba / #toyosu area of #tokyo #japan
It was a fascinating#art #experience that was an #immersive journey through seemingly #liminalspace
I highly recommend checking it out if you are in the area.
On Sunday, I did a day #trip up to #fukushima #japan to see @tea_10.10
This was my first time #traveling north of the #tokyo area and into the #tohoku region of the country.
I took #local #trains up to Fukushima, taking a total of 5 and a half hours. It was great way to #explore the area and make the travel part of the #journey
I only had the afternoon up there, and took the Tohoku #shinkansen back to Tokyo. It was a great ride and only took an hour and a half.
Yesterday, while grabbing brunch with some friends in #ueno , I remembered that an artist I follow had his #postapocalyptic #underwater #model #diorama pieces on display at a gallery near by.
I’ve been a fan of Masaki’s #art and it had inspired me to try my own in the past.
I was really happy that I got the opportunity to see these in person, while I am still here in #japan
The travels continue. Today, I went to the #railway #museum #鉄道博物館 in #omiya #japan. It was a really nice follow up to yesterday’s trip to Tsukuba.
The Railway Museum is a large complex chock full of #trains #railway #vehicles and #rollingstock that feature many facets and the #history of #railroading in Japan. Everything from #steamtrains and #locomotive to the #shinkansen #bullettrain were on display.
Now having visited this museum, I’ve been to the three major railroad museums in Japan: The Railway Museum in Omiya, the Kyoto Railway Museum, and the JR Railway museum in Nagoya
Spent a wonderful day at the #jaxa #space center in #tsukuba #japan with my friend @i_naoyuki
The visitor complex is small but has quite a vast collection of #spacecraft on display, including a full scale mock up of the #kibo module on the #iss
Best of all, this wonder museum is free! I highly recommend visiting.
First Tokyo Tower, and #tokyo #skytree #tokyoskytree !
In all the years I’ve been here, I actually had never go up the tower. Figured never was there a better time than now.
The vistas of Tokyo were absolutely expansive. The #city really does feel #endless
The travels continue!
After trying several times, I was finally able to make it to the #nikonmuseum !
As a lifelong #nikon user, seeing the history of the #camera and #optical company was a blast!
If you ever find yourself in #shinagawa #japan and love #photography definitely go check it out.
With Comiket 100 in the rear view mirror, it’s time to do some proper sightseeing around #tokyo before I have to head out.
The other day, I popped into #tokyotower🗼 with my buddies @atomicsuperstar and @mountainman.exe
I hadn’t been up the tower in years (last time was 2016 iirc) and it nice to see the sights again.
Though we all know what the *true* motive of going there was.
This will be my last Comiket for a little while, but what better way to end it than on the 50th Anniversary and 100th occasion of the Event. #comiket #comicmarket has always been some of the most enjoyable and is among the highlights of my time here in #Japan.
Over the past several years, I realized, never is there a place so open and so dedicated to this medium, especially #anime and #manga . #doujinshi really are a #cultural pillar of modern Japan media culture and at Comiket, you can feel the long venerable history backing it up.
Hopefully the next time I come will be a lot sooner, rather than later. Cheers to #c100 ! And look forward to 100 more!
Was checking out the #art installations by TeamLab at the Nagai Botanical Garden. Pretty interesting until the giant moths started getting up in my business…
1430 Days.
I said my goodbye and packed my things.
It has been a good run but the time has come to move on from being an ALT.
Time for a month of solid traveling and fun before I make my way back to the US for my next journey!

Here's the last batch of #photos of #military #models and #diorama on display.
Over the weekend that the #destroyer #kirishima was docked at #port in #kochi #japan , the neighboring cruise terminal at the port had a bunch of these on display.
I got a bunch of #pictures of these awesome pieces while I was there.
Look forward to a few more batches of pics of the #jmsdf #ship !
