Nene Husband Collection ID Card

Front of the Husband Collection ID Card with “engraved” style image and a pseudo-holographic overlay.

Description:

Within the Hololive Virtual YouTuber community, Momosuzu Nene is quite popular due to her eclectic and outgoing personality. A common trope in her community is that everyone can become her “husband,” which had become associated with her fandom. Subsequently, as a follow on to the trope, she began assigning “Husband ID number” to her fans on (crudely) drawn cards on her streams. This inspired some early renditions of a more official looking Husband ID card by various users. Mine is just the latest entry.

Idea:

The idea for the ID card came after I posted the other Hololive Currency Designs online, when a friend of mine (half-jokingly) asked me if I could make a Nene Husband ID card. I ended up running with the idea and worked on this fun little project over the weekend.

Previous iterations of these ID cards were fairly rudimentary, lacking any real emulation of security features that would be common on modern security designs. Because of that, I felt especially compelled to make use of my prior experience with currency design, to do something even more “official-looking” that could be contributed to the fanbase.

Creating the engraving print in Photoshop. This method utilized a different technique from previous methods employed on the Yagoo Banknote designs.

Process:

Like with the other projects, I first began with creating an “engraving” style for the observe artwork on the front. This required taking a screenshot of Nene and applying a filter pass in Photoshop. I utilized a different approach this time, which I think yielded some better results. The tutorial on how to create this effect can be found here. Any future designs will most likely use this method.

Putting all the assets together in multiple layers in Adobe Illustrator.

With the observe centerpiece done, I moved work over to Illustrator where I did the majority of the design and layout. The ID card is a standard Credit Card size layout, with the background, artwork, and other components separated into layers for organization. I pulled particular inspiration for the ID card from modern US State ID and Driver Licenses, as well as the Japanese Zairyuu or Residency Card. Various items were layered on each other with different blending modes applied at different opacities. The workflow at this point is pretty much identical to how the other currency designs were done.
